Tracing the Creative Journey of Anda Poikāne

July, 2023

This photographic series captures Anda Poikāne in her studio in Dunalka, a small village in western Latvia, as she works on a commissioned sculpture. Beyond documenting the artistic process, the series also reflects the atmosphere of long summer days in the countryside, moments shared with family and fellow artists who gather each year to paint, draw from life, and sculpt together.

While terracotta remains Anda’s primary medium, her practice extends fluidly across materials including paper, wire, and wood. Among the works featured is a sculptural study of horses, revealing the same sensitivity and expressive character present throughout her work.

The photographs portray an artist whose presence is both playful and deeply contemplative. Quietly wise and gentle in spirit, Anda approaches creation with tenderness, curiosity, and lifelong devotion.
