SCULPTING WITH CLAY

The rawness of the materials used and the forms of engaging with them
ignite the tranquility of the mind,
reminding that everything sought externally resides within.

Masha's material-based practice is the contemplation of nature's totality seen as inseparable from humans' inner nature.

Each piece is a prayer
to retrieve inner malleability.

Like the spiraling dance of the incense smoke,
the sculptures guide the attention into the enveloping liminality.
Holding space for mindful presence
and embodied expression of the self

The mask tradition is yet another one that unites humanity. All the mask traditions empower the choice to transform, to meet the voices that speak through you.
A mask creates a threshold between the seen reality and one that resides within, inviting to explore the constitution of one’s own myth as well as the choice to reenact and rewrite it. The myth that narrates the relationship between you and you, reflecting on the image of world that is observed through the eyes of this story.
Through the “concealment” of the mask, there is a paradoxical freeing of behavior. A character transformation takes place, as hidden or suppressed parts of the self come to the fore. Ultimately the transformation is revealing rather than concealing.
